I just came to the Apple store to check out the iPad once again. I really don’t care for this keyboard, but I could put up with it . . . and I’m going to use a Bluetooth keyboard anyway. Maybe I’ll develop a new, two-fingered typing method.
Now I have proven I can author here from the device, though I had to do it in html, not visual, mode.
Regardless, this is one special device. I’m going to get one even if I end up having to get a laptop anyway.

About Rick Ladd
Since my retirement from Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne in 2010, I have spent quite a bit of energy on developing work as a social media marketer for small business, a business manager for an AI software development firm, and as an editor/proofreader for a number of business books and a couple of novels, as well as a two-year return engagement at Rocketdyne from 2015 to 2017.
I have decided to stop actively pursuing business in these fields and am now positioning myself to be a writer. I have done quite a bit of writing over the years, but I’ve never really attempted to make any money at it; at least not specifically. I’m starting out with a couple of memoirs and, currently, I’m studying the craft, creating a detailed outline and timeline, and honing my skills as a storyteller. Pretty sure I’ll be writing some fiction as well.

A friend brought an iPad over this weekend and let me “play” with it. She hadn’t installed many apps yet, and I didn’t want to do too much “damage” to it that she’d have to undo, but I have to say I liked what I saw.
It may not be able to do everything, but it seems to do the things it does very well.

All I used for this entry was Safari. It wasn’t quite as seamless as I’d have liked it, but it worked . . . and that was what I was interested in. When I decided to go with Apple (I’ve been using a PC for the last 23 years), one of my considerations was being able to use an Ipad to “replace” a laptop for short trips. I also planned on working as much as possible “in the cloud”. I haven’t tested that out yet as fully as I’d like to, but being able to author directly on my WordPress blog is a start. I’m definitely getting a 3G iPad when they’re finally delivered (sometime in early May, it looks like now). I think it will be worth it even if the vast majority of what I do with it is consume. It’s a great learning device, IMO.

Like you I limited myself to Safari. As for blogging, I would think that there are WordPress apps that would give you some good capability beyond Safari. (I use a WP app on my Droid, cause going through the browser is too painful.)
I could very easily see using the iPad instead of a laptop on a short trip, and agree the 3G model would be the one to get.

Comment section works with the iPad. Bonus! I’m getting used to the damned thing 🙂
